UEC qualification
There is no problem for me if the PR government wants to recognize UEC. There will be many ways then to enter the university. I for one value meritocracy....an equal playing field. Most students who enter the university have either SPM, STPM, A Level, Matriculation, SMA qualifications.
What is the common denomination of these students. All the students sat for BM papers set by the Ministry of Education. If I am not mistaken, the BM papers taken by those sitting for UEC is entirely different from the rest. A friend of mine who has children studying in the Chinese schools said UEC BM papers is very much easier than SPM BM papers.
If we value meritocracy so much...why not these students take the same BM papers as the rest? Then everybody has an equal playing ground. Then I am sure the rest of us has no objection to UEC being recognized..since everybody takes the same paper. Why the Chinese in the national school can do that? They are even better than the Malays where BM is concerned. I know this since my daughter's best friend is a Chinese and her BM is better than my daughter's. There should not be any preferential treatment since Bahasa Melayu is our national language..
If this small change takes place, I then have no problem at all with UEC ...otherwise let every student take the UEC BM papers. But then again the quality of BM will be compromised...OR
Every student takes MUBMT. ( malaysian university bahasa melayu entrance test) then everything will be fine...just like every student has to take MUET to enter the university. Any other suggestions...so that we can recognize UEC?
