Ask not
Ask not what your government can do for you.....ask what you can do for your government. In a way I have tried to do this from the time I attended a leadership course during my university days. I became a housewife after 2 years of working in the private sector. I was a JPA scholar and at that time we were not asked to pay back even if we do not work with the government. There were around 2,000 students during my time and now the university has more than 20,000 students.
You may say that there is nothing much I can do for the government...you are right. But I believe that by raising my five children well, at least they do not become a nuisance to us and at least not to the government too. We tried to finance our children's education ourselves, not resorting to scholarships when our children studied locally. When my children complained that their friends have a lot of money from the scholarship, we told them that they are free to work with any organizations when they graduate. To us, the government does not owe us anything. It makes us independent and resilient. I want my children to make it on their own.
Our government may have their faults but for the last four years it has tried its best to rectify it. If we can give another chance to our loved ones why can't we do the same to our government. Why not transform the thing that we already have than to have another government that we are not sure of who can bring our Malaysia to another level.
Remember, the politicians runs the government. In their haste to win the parliament, the political parties put up any Tom, Dick and Harry ( fruit seller, hospital attendants etc) in their parties. Not that I say they cannot perform ( people can change) but to put these unqualified people as ministers....I wonder......Politicians can talk but can they do the actual jobs? There are politicians who underperformed when they work in work organizations...Do we expect them to perform in the government?? If they have lost a lot of money for their companies...what are the chances when they run the government when there is a lot of taxpayers money around? These politicians should ask themselves whether they are qualified to run a country.
The way I see it, they have their own interest at heart not the rakyats' interest. I dare not think what will happen when these people take over the government. They will change the top brass of all the GLCs...who are they going to put in replace? The Abrar people who have lost hundreds of millions until Abrar Finance worth only RM1??? Why replace these people when they have done a good job of running these companies?? So that they can have a free hand to the monies? Remember these new people never taste power before...when they have power, can you imagine what they will do? We have seen some of them have collected untold wealth during their five years governing certain states....can you imagine the untold damage Malaysia will have if this thing happens?
Can you imagine a fruit seller becomes the head of Petronas? A shopkeeper becomes Minister ofInternational Trade? A failed financier becomes the governor of Bank Negara? Do they have enough qualified people to run the GLCs. As it is , in the four states that they govern, to fill in certain positions is already a headache for them.
When they say change....they mean the people..but when I say change, I mean change the systems...Transform is a better word.
I am just a housewife but at this time my Malaysia needs me the most. This is all I can do for Malaysia. My one and only vote.
