Pineapple Vinegar
I've read a lot of articles on making vinegar. Most said they are pretty easy to make. With the vast benefit of apple cider vinegar, I'm trying to make some for myself. But I'm not using apples instead I'm using pineapples.
Ingredients:
Pineapples including skins
Sugar (I'm using rock sugar)
Filtered water
I've cut the pineapples separating the skin and flesh. I've decided to make one vinegar out of the skin and some flesh and another using the flesh only. I used 2 plastic containers and submerged the fruit in the water and sugar. Since I'm old schooled where cooking is concerned, I just estimate around 1 cup of sugar for one container. I covered the bottles with a piece of cloth and tied it with a piece of rubber band.
What do you know? The next day the 'vinegar' formed a lot of bubbles, so I guessed active fermentation is on the way. It's been 9 days and this morning I strained them into glass bottles and hopefully in 4 to 6 weeks time my vinegar will be ready. Will I be brave enough to put them in my food? Well, that has to be seen when they are ready...otherwise I can always use them as detergent, shampoo, cleaner etc...
